Dear Tutor Candidate,
As you may know, millions of school children with dyslexia endure frustration and demoralization on a daily basis as they struggle to acquire skills that many of us take for granted.
For over fifteen years, the Scottish Rite Masons, have been national leaders in the effort to help children and their families overcome the painful obstacles of dyslexia. To this end, we would like to invite you to join us by training to become a member of our growing cadre of highly skilled and dedicated tutors.
The Children’s Dyslexia Center training program is accredited by the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC). This training is offered free of charge by the Masons to interested individuals with a bachelor’s degree and a clean background check. However, there will be nominal costs for reading materials, grapheme card deck, organizational supplies, and the cost of the criminal background check.
The training also requires the following time commitments:
- 90hours of instruction and 5 hours of observation of experienced tutors
- A 100 hour practicum, which takes approximately nine to twelve months to complete
- During the practicum, each trainee must conduct a 55-minute tutoring session for two children, individually, two times per week (totaling four sessions per week.) These sessions are to be held during our usual business hours of 3:00 – 6:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
- Additionally, there is preparation time of approximately one hour for each lesson, as well as time devoted to book reports and exams.
Upon successful completion of the 90 hours of instruction, 5 hours of observation, and the 100 hour practicum, you will receive a Dyslexia Practitioner 1 Certification.
